The Tadpole jet was designed by Hollmann in 2007. When a used Williams FJ-44 engine was found and purchased, it was decided to use it instead of the two, FJ-22 engines that would never be produced. The single large medium by pass engine was mounted on top of the small aircraft since there was no room in the fuselage. Unbeknown to Hollmann, Eclipse and Cirrus were designing similar aircraft which were shown in Oshkosh in 2007. These aircraft looked almost identical to the Tadpole. However, the Tadpole used automatic leading edge slats that would increase the lift coefficient and allow a smaller wing size to be used. The aircraft on the right of the Tadpole is a two place, Mach 2 jet. Below is the Aircar designed for Michael Margeritoff by Martin Hollmann. This aircraft became known as the Safire Jet. It too was designed around the FJ-22 engines which were never produced. On the right of it is the Rotor-jet designed for vertical lift, take off. The wings are driven by the jet exhaust gas of the FJ-44 engine and the wing turns as a rotor blade for vertical lift. Once in the air, the blades/wing are slowed down and parked for horizontal cruse flight. Although the aircraft was never built, successful transition tests of the rotor-wing, from turning to stopped, were conducted on the back of a pick up truck.
The Asian Eagle was designed as a military trainer for Mariano Osmena of the Philippines in 1996. The canard aircraft is powered by a Allison 250-B17F, 450 shp gas turbine engine. Gross weight is 3,250 lbs. The 2nd jet is a swing wing like the F111.
